Tuesday, April 7, 2020 Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani presided over a government leadership meeting at the Presidential Palace on Sunday evening to discuss upcoming reforms and structural overhaul in the Ministry of Finance as well as progresses on curbing the spread of coronavirus in the country, a statement from the presidential press office said yesterday. It was underscored in the meeting that all related sections of the ministry will be working under the leadership of Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal, the acting minister of Finance and that the reforms and changes are aimed at segregation of duties and preventing from political interventions, according to the statement. All relevant offices of the Finance Ministry will be working under the supervision of the acting ministry of Finance, who will then submit his report to the president, the statement added. Acting Minister of Finance Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal will keep the public informed of the recent changes and reforms in the ministry. The meeting comes after a watchdog has vehemently denounced President Ashraf Ghani’s decision on trifurcation of the Ministry of Finance (MoF), warning the move will create problems. In line with the presidential proposal, the ministry will split into three separate entities -- the office of revenue and customs, the treasury office and the finance administration. Reacting to President Ghani’s decision, an Integrity Watch Afghanistan (IWA) official warned on Saturday the overhaul suggested by President Ghani would create more complications instead of enhancing transparency.
