Herat Grand Mosque to be Included in World Cultural Heritage List

Kabul (BNA) Acting Minister of Information and Culture, Mohammad Tahir Zuhair during a meeting with Herat local officials said on Thursday that initial steps have been taken to include Herat Grand Mosque into World Cultural Heritage List.
Assuring Ministry’s attention towards preservation of cultural heritages of the country, Minister Zuhair said his trip to the western province was aiming to overview the cultural situation, as according to him Herat has played the most important role in the production of Islamic culture, art and thought.
The provincial deputy governor Dr. Ghulam Dawood Hashemi, asked Ministry of Information and Culture to pay attention to Reconstruction of historical monuments, strengthening of culture, reconstruction of Herat minarets and its archeological complex as well as restoration of the historical monuments in the districts.
Meanwhile in a dinner reception, the Herat Governor Waheed Qatali welcomed Minister Zuhair and his accompanied delegation to the province and stressed the need for more support of cultural figures and the preservation of cultural assets.
