Afghanistan-Iran Relations Unparalleled Over Past Decade, President Karzai

Kabul (BNA) Hamid Karzai the president of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan held meeting with Dr. Hassan Rouhani the president of the Islamic Republic of Iran who attended Nawroz festival in Kabul on Thursday.
According to presidential press office to BNA, in the meeting, the Iranian president expressed his gratitude over the warm hospitality received in Kabul and said that Afghanistan has made tremendous progress, adding Afghanistan development for him is like Iran development.
Both the leaders in the meeting besides stressing for joint war against terrorism and security threats had also exchanged views on the modalities of war against poppy cultivation and its smuggling.
Dr. Hassan Rouhani said in the meeting that his country sees no obstacle on promotion of bilateral relations and called for farther enhancing relations with Afghanistan.
For his part, President Hamid Karzai said that relations between Afghanistan and Iran in the fields of political, economic and culture has developed exemplary over the past 12 years.
With regard to the threats pose by production of illicit drug and its smuggling, president Karzai said the benefit of drug smuggling is taken by others but the images of Afghanistan, Iran and regional countries are affected.
President Karzai said, “For elimination of drug evil, it is required that the regional countries should make joint efforts against production of illicit drug and its smuggling.” The president also assured that the next president of Afghanistan would also promote Afghanistan’s relations with Iran.
