Tehran (BNA) Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Salahuddin Rabbani met his Iranian counterpart Mohamamd Jawad Zarif here yesterday and discussed issues related to mutual interest, a MoFA statement said. According to the statement, FM Rabbani thanked Iran for hosting millions of Afghan refugees, adding that Afghanistan seeks extended political, security, trade and transit cooperation with Iran. “Fighting terrorism would be successful if the regional countries develop a joint counterterrorism strategy,” FM Rabbani noted, adding Afghanistan looking forward to have enhanced security and political ties with Iran.
Welcoming Salahuddin Rabbani, Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs termed Afghan officials’ visit to Iran as positive in recent days, adding Iran fully supports security and stability in Afghanistan and enhanced bilateral security and political ties with this country.
According to another report, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Salahuddin Rabbani, after his arrival to Tehran here the other day, met with Ali Larijani, the Chairman of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of the Islamic Republic of Iran, a MoFA statement said. Welcoming the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, the Chairman of the Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Iran hoped that the visit would have good achievements in further extending of relations between Kabul and Tehran.
Larijani emphasized that the Islamic Republic of Iran wants unity and integrity of Afghanistan as well as reinforcement of the system and success of the government and people of Afghanistan in the fight against terrorism.
During the meeting, Minister of Foreign Affairs discussed the increase of meetings between the officials and members of the parliaments to further extend relations between the two countries, which was welcomed by the chairman of the Islamic Consultative Assembly of Iran.
