MoPH Reports 76 New COVID-19 Cases, 9 Deaths in Afghanistan

Kabul (BNA) The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) on Sunday announced 76 new positive COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours nationwide.

The ministry in a statement said 1,427 people underwent tests since Saturday and the virus was detected in 76 people, pushing the overall tally to 53,538.

It said 30 cases were recorded in Herat, 15 in Kabul, seven in Kapisa, five each in Nangarhar and Takhar, four in Baghlan, three in Kunar, two each in Balkh and Laghman, one each in Kunduz, Badghis and Panjsher province.

The ministry said 208 individuals recovered from the infection during the period, taking the recoveries to 43,948 and nine people lost their lives to the virus, with the total death toll reaching 2,288.

With the emergence of a new variant of coronavirus, a number of countries have re-closed their borders and the Afghan Ministry of Public Health has called on people to avoid traveling overseas.
