President Ghani Stresses Practical Steps in Afghan Peace Process

Kabul (BNA) President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met with US special envoy for Afghanistan reconciliation, Dr. Zalmay Khalilzad at the presidential palace yesterday.
The meeting was also attended by the Vice Presidents, the National Security Adviser, the President's Special Representative for Economic, Trade Development and Poverty Reduction, the Chairman of the Negotiating Team, the US Embassy charge de affairs and General Director of the Administrative Office of the President, Practical measures were discussed before the start of direct talks as well as how to continue the declared reduction of violence and the undeclared ceasefire, and the commitments of the international community and neighboring countries to the Afghan peace process. President Ghani reiterated the Afghan government's commitment to peace and stressed:
"Our goal is to take practical steps in the peace process and we have a full commitment to peace in the country,” the presidential statement quoted.
He added that the fundamental will of the Afghan people is peace and that the Afghan government sees it as a top priority and will work together with the international community to achieve lasting peace, the statement added.
