President Karzai Orders Foreign Prisons Probe In Helmand

Kabul (BNA) Hamid Karzai, President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan has issued a decree on tasking of a panel for reviewing of presence of a prison in military base of foreign forces in Helmand province.
According to directorate of information and public relation for general directorate of administrative affairs and secretariat of ministerial council, President Hamid Karzai has issued a decree for reviewing and fact-finding related to presence of a prison in military bases of foreign forces stationed in Helmand and detaining of Afghan citizens in the province.
Based on the decree, head of administrative 124 for National Directorate of Security (NDS) General Abdul Saboor, provincial NDS head for Kandahar General M. Essa and provincial NDS head for Helmand General Mohammad Naeem have been tasked with a fact-finding panel headed by MoD military police commander Major General Ghulam Farooq Barakzai with membership of Abdul Karim Qanit, head and member of a committee for acceleration the addressing process of Bagram prisoners’ cases Abdul Shakoor Dadras, expert in national security sector and security of general directorate of administrative affairs and secretariat of ministerial council Brigadier General Anwar Shah to review the issue. After completing to review presence of a foreign forces’ prison in Kandahar Airport, the panel has been tasked to overall review presence of prisons and prisoners detained by foreign military forces and imprisoned in military bases of foreign forces in Helmand province and take legal and necessary steps related to transition and addressing to fate of the detained prisoners and closing the prison and urgently report the done executions to presidential office.
